To some, my story may be too far out there to entertain at first, and to you I say, keep an open mind and know that all things are possible. Others may relate and know exactly to what I speak of, to you I say, I see you and you are not alone. Either way, thank you for tuning in. This is just a story, my story.
In order to allow ourselves to align and reprogram we must let go of attachments to the past and fantasies of the future. This is easier said than done, I admit. It is in the present moment that we release the hustle and find alignment. This is the space where our power lies.
Bhakti is woven deeply through the island of Bali. As you may know, Bhakti is a yogic path that will eventually lead to self realization through devotion. Although there are many wonderful places on this planet, the obvious choice for leading my first retreat was Bali.
Joshua Tree, California is a magical land that is home to Bhakti Fest every September. During this long weekend open hearted yogis come from far and wide to practice yoga, sing kirtan, dance, meditate, and experience works shops in healing, breath work and tantra. I was lucky enough to make the journey with some very special friends.
This is the tale of my first practice and what would turn out to be my everlasting love story with yoga…
Before yoga I went about my days operating from my unconscious mind which would trigger unconscious emotions. Life used to seem so polarized, I remember getting swept up into the duality so easily. Reacting rather than responding to situations. All I could see, think and feel was black and white, sweet and sour, good and bad. I think most humans have this challenge, as we live in a dual world. I needed help coping with this, the separation was tearing me apart.
